During the gala evening of the Order of Saint Gabriel Belgium in 2021, a raffle was organized and raised funds for the benefit of the Re-Source association.
Re-Source provides comprehensive and warm support in addition to hospital care to help sick people cope better with cancer and increase the chances of recovery.
In Belgium, 1 women on 4 and 1 men on 3 will develop cancer before their 75th birthday. These patients can benefit from very efficient medicine, but the treatment process is often very heavy and anxiety-provoking.
Studies clearly show that both psychological, physical and social support are essential in the care and healing process, in particular by improving tolerance and compliance with treatments and therefore their effectiveness.
Re-Source’s action is based on 4 areas of activity :
• Move : practice regular and adapted physical activity ;
• Eat : adopt a healthy and balanced diet ;
• Share : learn, debate and share in thematic workshops ;
• To be : to find serenity and to learn to be benevolent with oneself.
The support provided by the Order of Saint Gabriel was used in particular to ensure the organization of a cycle of workshops to allow 10 patients to better experience their hormone therapy treatments.
Hormone therapy helps prevent the recurrence of certain breast cancers, but with unwanted side effects that are often very difficult to manage.
Re-Source has set up 8 thematic 2-hour workshops welcoming 10 participants, offering a space for speaking and training. These workshops are led by experts in supportive care (onco-psychologist, onco-coach, Doctor of integrative medicine and physiotherapists).
To this are added 12 weekly sessions of 1 hour of cardio and muscular rehabilitation supervised by physiotherapists and 3 individual consultations with a doctor specializing in integrative medicine.
