ASBL Sun Child was founded 30 years ago. Its aim is to support families weakened by a child’s serious illness by making their daily lives easier and providing them with well-being.
Sun Child provides financial support exclusively, at the request of social workers in hospitals and homes, to pay for medical expenses (hospitalization – medication not refund by social security, …) but also for the parents’ accommodation costs during the hospitalization of their child, school fees for sick children, internships during school holidays, housing costs, family assistance costs and unfortunately sometimes also funeral costs.
A “well-being” budget allows for the purchase of wigs, scarves and makeup products adapted for young teenage girls suffering from cancer.
In order to meet needs, a private car transport service is organized so that sick children can go to the hospital regularly to receive appropriate medical treatment and care.
Finally, Sun Child organizes recreational activities for sick or disadvantaged children in hospitals and reception centers, in particular with volunteers from Sparadrap Circus, as well as vacation stays.
The support provided by the Order of Saint Gabriel helps to finance these activities.
